
Gamecocks Close Indoor Regular Season at Music City Challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Jacksonville State Track & Field team closes out their indoor regular season this weekend at the Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt. The Gamecocks are coming off an in-state outing at the UAB Vulcan Invite last week.

The UAB Vulcan Invite
Cayla Johnson took home second place in the pentathlon while Chidinma Margaretmary Agu remains one of the key pieces for Jax State on the track as the Gamecocks wrapped up their penultimate indoor meet of the regular season at the UAB Vulcan Invite in Birmingham. Agu continued her tear after taking home first in the prior week's 400m dash, setting a new program record of 53.90 in the 400m, taking home second place and setting a new personal best.
Johnson Tabbed CUSA Field Athlete of the Week
Jax State graduate student Cayla Johnson has been named the Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Women's Field Athlete of the week following her performance at the UAB Vulcan Invite this weekend. Johnson starred for the Gamecocks in each of her events, placing in the top three of all five pentathlon events, bringing home three second place marks and a first-place finish in the pentathlon high jump.
Indoor Slate
The Music City Challenge is the final regular season indoor event for Jax State in 2025. The Gamecocks follow up the Nashville based event with the CUSA Indoor Championships in Lynchburg, Va.
Outdoor Slate
Following the 2024-25 indoor season, the Gamecocks will embark on a seven-event outdoor track & field slate before beginning the postseason in May. Jax State will open up the outdoor slate on March 14 at the Falcon Classic Multi in Montevallo, Ala. before closing out the regular season at the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tenn. on May 3. In between those two, Jax State will also compete at Mississippi State, NC State, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech and UCF. The 2025 CUSA Outdoor Championship will take place in Murfreesboro, Tenn. at MTSU on May 16-18.
