
Jax State Visits No. 25 Alabama On Tuesday In First Road Test

JACKSONVILLE - Jacksonville State hits the road for the first time of the 2025 season with a trip to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to face nationally ranked Alabama on Tuesday.
First pitch from Sewell-Thomas Stadium is set for 4 p.m.
Both clubs enter the midweek action hot as the Gamecocks are off to their best start since the 2000 season at 7-1 and riding a six-game winning streak. Jax State swept Akron to complete the season-opening homestand, while the Crimson Tide has started the season 8-0 after claiming three wins last weekend at the Jacksonville (Fla.) Classic. UA moved in to Baseball America's Top 25 poll at No. 25.

• Tuesday's meeting with Alabama is the 42nd meeting between the two in-state programs. UA holds a 26-15 lead in the series, including eight consecutive wins. The winning streak by Alabama dates back to the 2018 season . The Gamecocks shutout the Crimson Tide, 4-0, at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The Crimson Tide and Gamecocks' lone meeting during the 2024 season was rained out. 'Bama claimed a 17-3 win over Jax State during the 2023 season in Tuscaloosa.
• The Gamecocks begin the third week of the season as the NCAA Division I Baseball leader in triples. In the first eight games at the spacious Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium, Jax State has collected 10 triples and leads San Diego State (7) by three entering the midweek action. Jax State has five different players with a triple this season, including three players with multiple triples. Senior Drew Collins leads the nation with three triples, followed by a pair each by juniors Colton Hegwood and Caleb Johnson.
• The Gamecocks' bullpen has been stellar through the first two weeks of the season. The 17 arms that have been used out of the bullpen have tossed 40.1-of-the-72.0 innings pitched for Jax State through eight games. The relievers have a combined earned run average of 3.12 and has only allowed 14 earned runs and accumulating 33 strikeouts. The opposition is hitting .185 against Gamecock relievers.
• Jax State enters the week ranked second in NCAA Division I Baseball in hit-by-pitches. Through eight games, the Gamecocks have been the victims of 25 hit-by-pitches. Third baseman Cooper Blauser leads the club with being hit-by-a-pitch five times, which ranks him 19th in the country.
• After Tuesday's trip to the Capstone, the Gamecocks return to Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium for a weekend series with the Red Wolves of Arkansas State. The series begins on Friday at 6 p.m. The series continues on Saturday at 6 p.m. and wraps up on Sunday at 1 p.m.
