BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Cayla Johnson took home second place in the pentathlon while
Chidinma Margaretmary Agu remains one of the key pieces for Jax State on the track as the Gamecocks wrapped up their penultimate indoor meet of the regular season on Friday at the UAB Vulcan Invite in Birmingham.
Johnson starred for the Gamecocks in each of her events, placing in the top three of all five pentathlon events, bringing home three second place marks and a first-place finish in the pentathlon high jump.
Chanel Rutledge finished not far behind Johnson, placing fifth in the pentathlon.
Agu continued her tear after taking home first in last week's 400m dash, setting a new program record of 53.90 in the 400m, taking home second place and setting a new personal best. Agu has been a crucial piece for Jax State this season, placing in the top two of the 400-meter dash on three separate occasions.
Sophomore
Emma Drinkard set new personal bests in the 60m prelims (7.91) and the 200m (24.99), placing 19th and 14th in the events respectively.
In the field, sophomore
Jadyn Bonds turned in a sixth-place finish with a 1.63 margin in the high jump. Bonds completed the jump on her third attempt.
A trio of Gamecocks performed well in the pole vault, with
Kayley Stanley and
Savannah Yates each placing in the top five. Junior Lennon Isben placed 10th out of 18 individuals. Stanley cleared a height of 3.66 while Yates tied for fourth at 3.51m.
Several members of the Jax State men's cross country team participated as individuals in the 3000m with four Gamecocks finishing in the top half of participants. Mark Roper finished second while Jack Lowe placed fourth. Juan Camacho Tabuenca, Stephen Billman and Tanner Rice rounded out the top five Gamecocks in the event.
Jax State concludes its indoor regular season on March 14-15 at the Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn.
