JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Fresh off a 3-1 week, the Jax State softball team looks to avenge a February loss with a rematch against the Chattanooga Mocs on Wednesday in Chattanooga. Earlier this year, the Mocs defeated Jax State 3-2 at Jana McGinnis Field.

Gamecocks Bounce Back at FIU
Following a five-game CUSA losing skid, the Jacksonville State softball team was able to bounce back this weekend by picking up a pair of wins over the visiting FIU Panthers. Jax State took the first game 7-5 before dominating the Florida foes for an 11-3 run rule victory in just five innings in the first game of the Saturday doubleheader. Jax State fell in the third game 6-3.
Elrod, Underwood Claim CUSA Awards
Following a 3-1 weekend,
Emma Elrod was named the Conference USA Player of the Week while
Jaci Underwood earned Conference USA Freshman of the Week honors for their dominant offensive outbursts. Elrod led Jax State with eight hits in 15 at bats for a .533 batting average across four games while Underwood tacked on five extra base hits in 10 at bats, batting .600.
Captain Carter
With a team-best 2.14 ERA,
Kat Carter has been the premier pitcher for Jax State this season. The senior has tossed 78.1 innings with eight wins and two saves in 17 appearances. Of her 12 starts, Carter has tossed nine complete games including four complete game shutouts. She has also recorded 66 strikeouts this year.
Rookies in the Field
The Jax State defensive lineup is littered with freshmen in the 2025 season, with 108 of 144 infield starts being made by rookies this season.
Jaci Underwood,
Kailey Martin and
Aria Davis have each made 36 starts, with
Ashley Phillips being the lone returner in the infield lineup so far this year.

Jax State sophomore
Emma Elrod has continued an offensive tear the entirety of 2025, leading Jax State in a few offensive categories through 33 games so far this season. Elrod leads Jax State in hits (51), doubles (13), batting average (.402), runs (39) and slugging percentage (.732).
Eslinger Out of the Pen
Jax State pitcher
Jordan Eslinger has been a crucial piece for Jax State this season, turning in a 5-2 record with 12 of her 15 appearances coming out of the bullpen. Eslinger is second on the team with a 2.17 ERA so far this year.
Freshman Power
With a stellar week, Jax State freshman
Kailey Martin tied the team lead with nine homers on the season. Martin launched three homers in four games a few weeks prior, torching New Mexico State for nine RBI's in the three game series. Martin also leads Jax State in RBI's this season with 36.
Gamecocks Down No. 17 Mississippi State
Behind a complete game shutout from
Kat Carter and timely hitting from the Gamecocks, Jax State knocked off No. 17 Mississippi State at the Rocket City Softball Classic, 3-0.
Abbi Perkins led the Gamecocks at the plate, with a pair of fourth inning RBI's while coming around to score herself. The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning before Carter escaped the jam and earned her fifth victory of the season.
