Jax State Takes Down Kennesaw on Senior Day

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State men's tennis got a dominating 4-0 victory over Conference USA rival Kennesaw State Friday at home. The Gamecocks honored senior Logan Haga prior to the match and then took care of the Owls for their fifth-straight win.

The Gamecocks got things rolling in front of a packed house at the Jax State Tennis Courts with a doubles point sweep. David Krasner and Marko Milosavljevic got the day started with their 6-3 triumph on court one over Mikolaj Lis and Anthony Weingarten. Zach Murphy and Lucius Soller continued their impressive doubles season with a 7-5 win over Xavi Ferrer and Kyvan Rietkerk on court two to grant the Gamecocks the doubles point.

Haga and Timo De Visser were deadlocked at 4-4 on court three with Sam Baldwin and Erik Vladimirov when the doubles point was clinched leaving their match unfinished.

Krasner, Milosavljevic, and Charlie Penman then got three wins in singles to capture the match win for the Gamecocks. Krasner took care of Vladimirov 6-0, 6-1 on court four in an impressive victory. Milosavljevic won his opening set over Rietkerk easily 6-0. Rietkerk responded valiantly in the second set, but Milosavljevic was too much as he took the win 7-5.

On court two, it was a similar story for Penman's match against Lis as it was Milosavljevic's match on court three. Penman dominated the first set 6-1 before Lis played him close in the second. Penman eventually took the second set 7-5 to clinch the sweep for the Red-and-White.

De Visser and Weingarten went unfinished on court one, but they were playing a highly competitive match against one another. Weingarten took the opening set 6-4, but De Visser was leading 6-5 in the second when the match was called.

Aman Dahiya was facing Baldwin on court five when the match was called. Dahiya lost the first set 6-2 but was leading 5-4 in the second set. Alin Fatu and Ferrer were squaring off on court five when the match ended. Fatu took the first set 6-2, but Ferrer was leading 4-3 in a competitive second set at match end.

The Gamecocks improve to 11-6 thanks to their win-streak continuing against Kennesaw, while the Owls fall to 7-8 on the year.

Jax State will now face in-state rival UAB Saturday at 1 p.m. for their last regular season match of the season before heading to the CUSA tournament next week.
