TEXARKANA, Ark.—Jacksonville State wrapped up the Conference USA Championship Wednesday afternoon with a four-over team round to finish ninth in the field.
The Gamecocks struggled through the first round with a 12-over team score of 300, but bounced back with two, four-over rounds of 292 to finish out the 54-hole event. Liberty is the top-seed heading into Thursday's match play team championship at -15.
Senior
Ryley Heath was the top individual on the roster with a 13
th-place finish with a one-under par 54-hole total of 215. Heath started with an even-par round of 72 on Monday with 14 pars and found himself just a shot off the lead through 16 holes during Monday's second round with a three-under day of 69. He finished with a two-over 74 in the final round.
Heath was third in the field in total pars with 39.
Senior
Gabriel Restrepo took 28
th with a four-over total of 220. Restrepo was three-over on the first day and came back with 16 pars during Tuesday's round to finish with an even-par 72. He posted 73 on Wednesday with a birdie on the 501-yard par 5 second hole.
Restrepo led the field in pars with 42.
Freshman
Ben Shedd was a shot back in 29
th, rebounding from a first-round 76 with rounds of 73 and 72. Seven of his nine birdies during the tournament came on the back nine during the week.
Senior
Santiago Bailleres was 40
th at +13 with totals of 77, 79, and 73. He made the turn at 33 in the third round, carding four birdies during a six-hole run.
Senior
Devin Speight shot 78 in the second round and 81 in the third round after subbing for
Ricardo Matho who posted 85 in the first round.
The Gamecocks will wait to hear on a possible berth in the National Golf Invitational presented by Golfweek in Arizona next month.
