Softball Welcomes Georgia Tech to Jana McGinnis Field

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Jax State welcomes an ACC foe to Jacksonville this week when the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets travel to Jana McGinnis Field on Tuesday. Georgia Tech currently sits tied for fifth in the ACC Softball standings.

Bulldogs Take Series From Jax State
Jax State entered a Sunday afternoon rubber match against Louisiana Tech in a tied series before suffering a heartbreaking 1-0 walk-off loss in the series finale. Louisiana Tech stole the opener 4-2 before Jax State tallied 14 hits in an offensive explosion in the second game for a 9-6 victory. Kat Carter was one out away from sending the game into extra innings with a 0-0 tie in Sunday's finale.
 
Carter Closing in on Milestone
Kat Carter struck out eight batters this weekend at Louisiana Tech, leaving her with 299 strikeouts in her collegiate career. Carter, a four-year member of the Gamecock softball program is just one punchout away from becoming the 11th player in program history to reach the 300 strikeout mark.
 
Quick Improvements
In the first season under new head coach Julie Boland, Jax State has already improved upon its 2024 win total. The Gamecocks finished their first season in Conference USA last year with a 23-30 record and have already surpassed that win total in 2025. Jax State reached the 24-win mark this season with just 15 losses.
 
Well Rounded Ballclub
Jax State sits towards the top of Conference USA in several categories at both the plate and the circle. The Gamecocks 222 runs are the second most in CUSA while also tying for the lead in doubles (64) and walks (147). In the circle, Jax State has posted the second-best ERA (2.78) and the second most strikeouts (195).
  
Captain Carter
Tied for the team lead with a 2.20 ERA, Kat Carter has been the premier pitcher for Jax State this season. The senior has tossed 92.1 innings with eight wins and two saves in 20 appearances. Of her 14 starts, Carter has tossed 11 complete games including four complete game shutouts. Carter's 11 CG's are tied for the league lead.
 
She Gets on Base
Jax State freshman outfielder Haleigh Cushingberry is in the midst of a 10-game reached base streak as well as an eight-game hitting streak. Cushingberry has exactly one hit in Jax State's last eight games and is three games shy of tying Emma Elrod for the longest streak by a Gamecock this year (11).
 
Hot Rod
Jax State sophomore Emma Elrod has continued an offensive tear the entirety of 2025, leading Jax State in a few offensive categories through 40 games so far this season. Elrod leads Jax State in hits (56), doubles (13), batting average (.400), runs (43) and slugging percentage (.721).
 
We Want Some Mo'
Morgan Nowakowski has been a crucial piece for Jax State near the top of the lineup, batting .337, the second-best mark on the team so far this year. Nowakowski also ranks third in Conference USA with 26 walks drawn and fifth in on base percentage at .485.
 
Gamecocks Down No. 17 Mississippi State
Behind a complete game shutout from Kat Carter and timely hitting from the Gamecocks, Jax State knocked off No. 17 Mississippi State at the Rocket City Softball Classic, 3-0. Abbi Perkins led the Gamecocks at the plate, with a pair of fourth inning RBI's while coming around to score herself. The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning before Carter escaped the jam and earned her fifth victory of the season.
