Julie Boland announced the hiring of Olivia Grey as Pitching Coach for the Gamecocks on Monday. Director of Player Development
Garrett Skelton has also been promoted to Assistant Coach.
"Coach Grey's passion for teaching the game and commitment to building strong, resilient competitors and women align perfectly with Jax State's legacy," said Boland, "Her ability to enhance mentality, uphold standards, and foster a championship mindset will be a valuable asset to our team as we continue to grow and pursue a winning culture."
Grey spent the past season as a graduate assistant at Michigan State after one season as a pitcher for the Spartans. As a player, Grey was a two-time Big Ten Pitcher of the Week selection and has the 10
th most strikeouts in a single season by a Spartan in program history.
Prior to her time at Michigan State, Grey spent three seasons at Portland State, earning several All-Conference honors. Grey was named First Team All-Big Sky in 2022, a two-time Big Sky All-Tournament Team selection as well as the 2021 Big Sky Championship MVP, a three-time Academic All-Big Sky selection and a three-time Big Sky Pitcher of the Week. Grey was also tabbed Second Team NCFA All-Region in 2022.
Grey also played professional softball in the Women's Fastpitch League for the Hub City Adelitas. Grey holds her Bachelor's degree from Portland State and her Master's degree from Michigan State.
"We are excited about the knowledge, energy, and leadership she will bring to our program," said Boland.
After two seasons as Director of Player Development at Jax State,
Garrett Skelton has been promoted to Assistant Softball Coach.
"Coach Garrett's loyalty to this program, his genuine care for our players, and his dedication to helping our team improve every day made this an easy decision," said Boland, "I'm excited to see him thrive in this new role and continue impacting our program in positive ways."
Prior to his role as Director of Player Development, Skelton served as head manager for the program while he was a student at Jax State.
Skelton was a crucial piece of a staff that saw Jax State post 37 wins in 2025 and make a run to the CUSA title game. The 37-win mark in 2025 was the most since the Gamecocks won 41 games in 107, took home the OVC Regular Season and Tournament Titles and made an appearance in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional.
