ATLANTA, Ga. – Jacksonville State had a second pitcher selected in the 2025 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft with the New York Mets selecting junior
Joe Scarborough in the 19th round of the draft on Monday.

Jackson Phipps was the first Gamecock to be drafted in the annual Major League Baseball Amateur draft on Monday as he was selected in the 16th round by Athletics.
The 2025 MLB Draft coincided with the league's All-Star festivities in Atlanta, Ga. Scarborough becomes the 69th player drafted by an MLB club. The righty is just the second Gamecock taken by the Mets. Former Gamecock catcher Nic Gaddis was picked by the Mets in the 16th round of the 2019 draft. With two selections in the 2025 draft, it's the first time since the 2019 edition of the draft that Jax State has had multiple selections. Gaddis and pitcher Garrett Famer was taken in the same draft in 2019. Farmer was selected by the Baltimore Orioles (25th round).

The Pascagoula, Mississippi native joined the Gamecocks after two seasons in the Mississippi JUCO ranks at East Mississippi Community College in Scooba, Mississippi. He made 19 appearances out of the bullpen for the Gamecocks. Scarborough tossed 18.1 innings with 14 strikeouts. He was inserted into the closer's role during the season. Scarborough collected a pair of saves and posted four wins as a junior.
Scarborough posted a season-high three strikeouts in 2.0 innings of work against Arkansas State on March 2.
