Women's Basketball Suffers Setback At Missouri State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Jax State women's basketball suffered a 63-47 setback Saturday at Missouri State.
 
The Gamecocks held a 32-29 lead at halftime, but the Bears outscored the Gamecocks 18-4 in the third to take a 47-36 advantage heading into the final 10 minutes of action.
 
Brooklyn McDaniel shined for the second-straight game matching a career-high 16 points she set at Florida International on Jan. 8. Mya Barnes had another solid performance scoring 13 points and tying with Maria Sanchez-Ponce for a team-best eight rebounds. Adriana Jones reached double-figures, scoring 10 points against the Bears.
 
The Gamecocks shot 16-of-54 from the field and made 2-of-17 three-point attempts.
 
Jax State led 6-4 at the first quarter media break. Later in the first, Jax State had 12-10 lead until Missouri State scored three-straight to go up 13-12 heading into the second period. Jax State opened the second on a 6-2 run to regain the lead at 18-12. Jones hit a jumper with one minute before halftime to extend Jax State's lead to 32-27.
 
McDaniel had 14 of her 16 points at halftime.
 
In the fourth, Missouri State went up 15 before a layup from Barnes and a made free throw by Eden Sample cut the Bears' lead to 51-41 with 6:34 left to play. Missouri State closed out the game on a 12-6 run.
 
Kaemyn Bekemeier led Missouri State with 31 points and 14 rebounds.
 
Jax State moves on to face Kennesaw State on Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. central in what will be their third-straight conference road game.
