Bowling Claims Third Title in Four Tournaments

The top-ranked Jax State bowling team won its third consecutive tournament of the season, going a perfect 12-0 at the Northeast Classic at Bowlerama in New Castle, Del.
 
Jax State went 5-0 on Friday in Baker games with No. 12 Duquesne providing the toughest challenge which the Gamecocks met with a 985-973 win. The Gamecocks finished the first day of play second in the field in total pinfall at 5,291, just 10 behind Wichita State.
 
Saturday's traditional matches started with a 1,069-996 win over No. 7 North Carolina A&T and won each of their next four matches by at least 250 pins. In it's win over William Smith, Jax State had all five of its players register 200 games, highlighted by Keira Magsam's 280. The Gamecocks posted 38 strikes as a team in that match which included 14 in a row.
 
Freshmen Gianna Brandolino and Kaitlyn Stull led the way during Saturday's play and earned spots on the all-tournament team. Brandolino was the tournament MVP with a 245.2 average with her best game coming against Roberts Wesleyan with a 257. Stull was third in the field with a 233.6 average, posting a 269 in the William Smith match.
 
During Sunday's bracket play, Jax State came up with a pair of 4-1 wins over No. 3 Vanderbilt in Baker Best of Seven matches to claim the crown.
 
In the first round, Jax State led 2-0 after 233-180 and 226-225 wins before running into some trouble in game three where they only had four strikes and Vanderbilt was able to capitalize with seven in the first eight frames for s 245-190 win. Jax State answered by striking on seven of eight in the next game for a 247-202 win, then closed with a 203-192 win to claim the match.
 
The cadence was the same in the championship with the Gamecocks taking a 2-0 lead with 239-226 and 237-205 wins before facing four splits among five open frames in game three which was won by Vanderbilt 231-139. The Gamecocks won the next two 218-184 and 220-192 to come away with the trophy.
 
Jax State will head to the International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Texas next weekend for the Prairie View A&M Invitational.
