DALLAS—Jax State freshman
Claudia Marquez Contreras as selected as the Conference USA Women's Track Freshman of the Week for her performance at the Samford Invitational on Friday.
Marquez competed in her first collegiate indoor meet in which she finished second in the women's 800 with a time of 2:12.33. The mark gave Marquez the second-fastest time in school history in the event, along with the 80th fastest time in NCAA Division I Indoor events so far this season. She currently holds the fastest 800 time among CUSA freshmen.
Marquez also competed in the women's 4x400 relay in which the group finished in fifth place out of 14 schools, posting a time of 4:01.70.
The Gamecocks will return to the track on January 30
th at the Lenny Lyles Invitational in Louisville, Ky.
