Women's Hoops Returns Home To Face New Mexico State

JACKSONVILLE – Jax State women's basketball is set for a Conference USA showdown against the New Mexico State Aggies on Thursday inside Pete Mathews Coliseum. This will Jax State's first home contest since Jan. 4 against Middle Tennessee.

Last Time Out
Jax State is coming off a convincing 74-47 victory at Kennesaw State on Jan. 17. The Gamecocks knocked down 14 threes, including seven in the first half in the triumph. Mya Barnes led the way for Jax State with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Makala Hobdy poured in 15 points, Eden Sample added 13 points, and Kyera Thornsbury had 10, respectively.
 
Recapping the Road Trip
During their three-game road trip, the Gamecocks went 2-1 with a 70-67 win over FIU on Jan. 8 and last weekend's win over Kennesaw. Their loss was a 63-47 final at Missouri State on Jan. 10. Against FIU, Brooklyn McDaniel paced the Gamecocks with a career-high 16 points. McDaniel then matched her career-game two days later at Missouri State.
 
Barnes' Double-Doubles
Barnes leads Jax State with five double-doubles this season, including an 18-point, 10 rebound performance at Kennesaw State. She had back-to-back double-doubles against Mercer and Brewton-Parker earlier this season making her the first Gamecock to record back-to-back doubles since Kennedy Gavin the 2021-22 season.
 
Three-Point Barrage
Against the Owls on Jan. 17, Jax State hit 14 threes. The 14 made shots from range is tied for fourth most made threes in a single game all-time and tied for third most against an NCAA Division I opponent. Jax State's most made threes was 20 against Sewanee in the 2024-25 season. The Gamecocks lead CUSA this season making 8.3 threes per game.
 
Where They Rank
Barnes ranks tied for fourth in CUSA with an average of 1.1 blocks per game. Barnes is tied for fifth in the conference averaging 2.1 made threes per game, is tied for 6th in the league with an average of 8.3 rebounds per game and is 17th in CUSA averaging 11.6 points. Kyera Thornsbury ranks 1st in CUSA with a 2.8 assist to turnover ratio. Thornsbury's assist-to-turnover ratio is 14th in the NCAA.
 
Stepping In League Play
Jax State has plenty of players upping their game in league action thus far. Barnes is playing at a possible all-conference level, scoring 14.0 points per game and pulling down 9.6 rebounds per contest in league play and lead the Gamecocks. Brooklyn McDaniel averages 12.6 points per game and Adriana Jones scores 10.4 points per game in conference play.
 
Series History
Jax State holds a 3-1 all-time record over New Mexico State. Jax State is 2-0 in Jacksonville and is 1-1 in Las Cruces, N.M. Jax State took the first ever meeting 56-49 in the Pete on Feb. 3, 2024. New Mexico State won the most recent meeting 66-47 in their gym on Feb. 20, 2025.
