JACKSONVILLE — Sae Kaneko clinched the Jax State women's tennis victory against the Mississippi College Choctaws, 4-3, on Thursday afternoon at the Jax State Tennis Courts to wrap up exhibition play with a victory.
Jax State claimed victory during the doubles point by taking two of the three courts. Court two, manned by Irene Artigas and Isabella Sambola, earned a 6-1 victory to give the Gamecocks the advantage, but a 6-3 win for MC on court one left it all up to court three. Kaneko and Angeles Rodriguez-Rizo on court three claimed the doubles point with a 6-3 win.
In singles action, Jax State earned victories on courts one and two, thanks to Polina Ramenskaja's 6-4, 6-2 win on one and Artigas's 6-0, 6-1 win on two. The Choctaws earned three victories on courts three (6-3, 6-4), four (6-1, 6-1), and five (6-0, 6-3), to even up the score at 3-3 awaiting court six's decision.
Kaneko on six was able to dispatcher opponent in two sets with matching 6-3 scores to clinch the match at 4-3, ending Jax State's exhibition slate with a victory over Mississippi College.
The Gamecocks will take to the road to face Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia, on Sunday, February 1. The match will be Jax State's first official match of the season.
