ATLANTA, Ga. – Jacksonville State women's tennis hits the road for the second time in three matches Sunday to take on Georgia Tech in Atlanta. The match is set for a 3 p.m. central time first-serve.
The Gamecocks are fresh off a 4-3 triumph over Mississippi College on Jan. 29 in the team's home opener. The win over Mississippi College has the Gamecocks 2-0 early in the season. Meanwhile, Georgia Tech is 1-2 with a win over Georgia State and a pair of losses against Auburn and Georgia.
Against the Choctaws on Thursday, the Gamecocks claimed the doubles point by taking two of the three courts.
Irene Artigas and
Isabella Sambola took a 6-1 win on court two before the Choctaws won 6-3 on court one.
Sae Kaneko and
Angeles Rodriguez-Rizo claimed the doubles point with a 6-3 victory on court three.
In singles, the Gamecocks saw
Polina Ramenskaja win 6-4, 6-2 on court one and Artigas take a 6-0, 6-1 win on court two. Mississippi College won 6-3, 6-4 on court three, 6-1, 6-1 on four, and 6-0, 6-3 on five, to tie the match at 3-3.
Kaneko clinched the match win for the Gamecocks in two sets with a pair of 6-3 finals to claim the fourth and final point of the afternoon.
Following Sunday's match at Georgia Tech, Jax State hosts Alabama A&M on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
