Women's Basketball Carries Winning Momentum to Missouri State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Jax State women's basketball looks to carry winning momentum into a Saturday road contest against Conference USA newcomer Missouri State. Jax State is coming off a 70-67 win at Florida International on Thursday.

Last Time Out
Jax State downed FIU 70-67 Thursday evening. The Gamecocks shot an efficient 24-of-56 from the floor and were more impressive from three as they hit 12-of-26 shots from beyond the arc. Jax State captured an early 9-7 lead in the first quarter and never lost the lead for the remainder of the game. The Gamecocks held FIU to 36.8% shooting from the floor and only 5-of-18 from three.
 
McDaniel's Career Night
Brooklyn McDaniel scored a career-best 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting Thursday. She also added six rebounds against the Panthers. McDaniel is averaging 8.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game on 23.9 minutes per game. McDaniel's 16 against FIU led the way in the road victory for Jax State.
 
Balanced Attack
Against FIU, Jax State had four players score in double-digits. McDaniel led with 16, Adriana Jones had 14, Mya Barnes scored 11, and Makala Hobdy added 10. Eden Sample and Maria Sanchez-Ponce both added eight points, respectively. Seven players touched the court against FIU with Sample, Barnes, McDaniel, Jones, and Hobdy all playing at least 30 minutes.
 
Barnes' Double-Doubles
Mya Barnes leads Jax State with four double-doubles this season, including an 11-point, 13 rebound performance against FIU. She had back-to-back against Mercer and Brewton-Parker earlier this season. Barnes was the first Gamecock to record back-to-back since Kennedy Gavin in the 2021-22 season.

Barnes ranks tied for fourth in CUSA with an average of 1.1 blocks per game. Kyera Thornsbury ranks sixth in the league averaging 3.0 assists per game and is first in the league with a 3.5 assist-to-turnover ratio. Thornsbury's assist-to-turnover ratio also ranks tied for seventh in the NCAA. Barnes is ninth in the CUSA averaging 8.1 rebounds per game, tied for 18th in the conference averaging 11.0 points per game, and is fifth in the league averaging 2.1 threes per game.
 
Series History
Jax State and Missouri State's matchup on Saturday will mark the first time the two programs have ever faced one another.
