ATLANTA, Ga. – Gamecocks women's tennis fell 4-0 on the road at ACC foe Georgia Tech Sunday afternoon. The loss is the first loss of the season for Jax State.
Georgia Tech won the match by clinching the doubles point before winning three singles courts. The doubles team of
Sae Kaneko and
Angeles Rodriguez-Rizo on court three was the first match to be completed. The Gamecock duo fell 6-1 to Given Roach and Eleni Karantali of the Yellow Jackets.
On doubles court one,
Polina Ramenskaja and
Aneka Patel lost 6-2 to Alejandra Cruz and Seri Nayuki to give Georgia Tech the doubles point.
Irene Artigas and
Isabella Sambola's doubles match on court two was tied 5-5 against Olivia Caneiro and Taly Licht, but the match went unfinished as the Yellow Jackets clinched the point.
Results on singles court five, two, and four were enough for Georgia Tech to take the match.
Alba Roche was downed 6-1, 6-1 by Sabritt Dozier on court five to put the Yellow Jackets up 2-0. Sambola lost 6-1, 6-2 to Licht on court two, before Georgia Tech clinched the match on court four with a 6-1, 7-5 final between Rodriguez-Rizo and Carneiro.
Three singles matches went unfinished.
Polina Ramenskaja lost the first set 7-5 and was trailing 4-1 on court one, Artigas lost 6-2 in set one and was tied 4-4 on two, and Kaneko lost set one 6-3 and was behind 5-4 in the second on six when the match was won by the Yellow Jackets.
The Gamecocks are back in action at home on Saturday, Feb. 7, against Lee University.
