Women's Tennis Falls Against UNA

JACKSONVILLE – Women's tennis lost 4-1 at the Jax State Tennis Courts to North Alabama. The Gamecocks are now 3-2 overall on the season.
Jax State opened the match with a win in doubles action before UNA clinched four singles courts to win the in-state rivalry match.
In doubles, Polina Ramenskaja and Emma Montagner won 6-2 over UNA's Louise Booker and Eeva Ristola. On court three, Sae Kaneko and Angeles Rodriguez-Rizo took the doubles point for the Gamecocks with a 6-4 final against Farah Asaad and Sammie Schouten.
Irene Artigas and Isabella Sambola were tied 5-5 in their doubles match on court two, but it went unfinished after the Gamecocks clinched the point.
Rodriguez-Rizo's court was the first to wrap up in singles as she fell 6-1 in both the first and second sets on court three. Kaneko then dropped her match against Schouten 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) on court five to give UNA a 2-1 lead in the match. Sambola lost the first set of her court four match in tiebreakers by a score of 7-6 (7-5). She then fell 6-3 in the second.
The match was determined on court one as Ramenskaja and Ristola went to three sets. Ristola took the first set 6-0, but Ramenskaja responded with a 6-4 win in the second. Ramenskaja eventually dropped the third set 6-3 in the match clinching win for the visiting Lions.
Montagner and Artigas both had singles matches that went unfinished after UNA clinched. Montagner lost the first set 7-5 on court six and was tied 6-6 when the match was called. Meanwhile on court two, Artigas lost the first set 6-0. Artigas then won in tiebreakers in the second set 7-6 (7-4). Her third set was 2-1 UNA when the match concluded.
The Gamecocks are back in action Friday at home against another in-state foe, Samford. The match against the Bulldogs is set for a 12 p.m. first-serve.
