Women's Hoops Travels To Middle Tennessee Thursday

MURFREESBORO, Tn. – Women's basketball heads north to Middle Tennessee Thursday evening for a Conference USA showdown. The Gamecocks are coming off a 1-1 weekend at home against Liberty and Delaware.

Last Time Out
The Gamecocks are fresh off a 61-58 win at home over Delaware. Mya Barnes paced the Gamecocks with 20 points, six rebounds, and four blocks. Meanwhile, Adriana Jones added 12 points, four rebounds, and two assists against the Blue Hens. The Gamecocks were 23-of-63 shooting and 9-of-25 from three-point range.
 
Dynamic Duo
Barnes and Jones have been dynamic together this season for Jax State. In the most recent games against Delaware and Liberty, Jones scored 22 total points and had five assists. Meanwhile, Barnes scored 26 total points and pulled down 17 rebounds, including 11 boards against Liberty and 20 points against Delaware.
 
In Conference Stars
In CUSA play, Barnes leads the way averaging 12.0 points per game and average 9.5 rebounds per contest. Brooklyn McDaniel averages 10.8 points per game and 5.1 rebounds, Adriana Jones averages 10.3 points in conference play.

Mya Barnes ranks tied for fifth in CUSA with an average of 1.2 blocks per game. Barnes is tied for fourth in the conference averaging 2.1 made threes per game, is sixth in the league with an average of 8.4 rebounds per game and is tied for 17th in CUSA averaging 11.6 points. Adriana Jones is tied for 23rd in CUSA averaging 10.2 points per game.
 
Shooters Shoot
The Gamecocks rank first in CUSA with an average of 8.2 threes made per game. They also have shot 189 threes thus far, which also ranks first in the league. The 8.2 threes per game ranks Jax State tied for 37th in most made threes per game in the NCAA. At Kennesaw State on Jan. 17, Jax State hit a season-high 14 threes, including seven made shots from range at halftime. Against the Owls, the 14 makes were on an efficient 28 attempts. Against Liberty on Feb. 5, Jax State hit 11 threes.
 
Sanchez-Ponce's Best Outing
Maria Sanchez-Ponce was one of the top returners from 2024-25 for Jax State. Sanchez-Ponce played her best game offensively at Louisiana Tech on Jan. 31. Sanchez-Ponce scored a season-high 17 points against the Lady Techsters. Sanchez-Ponce's previous best game came against LaGrange in the season opener where she scored 16 points. Sanchez-Ponce averages 7.4 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per contest this season.
 
Series History
Middle Tennessee has a 5-0 all-time record against Jax State. In the most recent meeting in Pete Mathews Coliseum between the two squads, Middle Tennessee downed the Gamecocks 69-52 on Jan. 4. Middle won the first meeting 66-45 in Jacksonville on Jan. 24, 2024.
