Gamecocks Set To Take On WKU Saturday

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Jax State women's basketball is set for their second consecutive road matchup Saturday. The Gamecocks take on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Saturday at 2 p.m.

Last Time Out
The Gamecocks are coming off a 57-48 loss at Middle Tennessee on Thursday. The Gamecocks were led offensively by Mina Djurdjevic with 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting and 3-of-7 from three. Maria Sanchez-Ponce followed Djurdjevic with nine points. The Gamecocks' nonstarters scored 25 points compared with just three from MTSU's players off the bench. Djurdjevic and Sanchez-Ponce both came off the bench against the Blue Raiders.

Mya Barnes ranks tied for fourth in CUSA with an average of 1.2 blocks per game. Barnes is tied for fifth in the conference averaging 2.0 made threes per game, is fourth in the league with an average of 8.7 rebounds per game and is tied for 16th in CUSA averaging 11.8 points. Adriana Jones is 25th in CUSA averaging 10.2 points per game.
 
Barnes Preseason Honors
Barnes was selected to the 2025-26 Preseason All-CUSA Team. Barnes averaged 7.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks on 27.8 minutes per game last season. Barnes' 1.2 blocks per game and 35 total blocks ranked her fifth in the league in both categories last season. Barnes averages 11.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.2 blocks per game this season on 32.1 minutes per game.
 
Djurdjevic's Double Double
Against Sam Houston, Djurdjevic recorded a 10-point, 11 rebound double-double. That marked the first career double-double by the freshman from Serbia. Djurdjevic's best game prior to Jan. 29 came when she scored a career-high against UC Davis on Nov. 29, 2025. Djurdjevic had to step into a starting role as the Gamecocks were without Brooklyn McDaniel. Djurdjevic has scored double-figures in six games in her freshman season.
 
Dynamic Duo
Barnes and Jones have been dynamic together this season for Jax State. In the most recent games against Delaware and Liberty Jones scored 22 total points and had five assists. Meanwhile, Barnes scored 26 total points and pulled down 17 rebounds, including 11 boards against Liberty and 20 points against Delaware.
 
Series History
Western Kentucky is 4-1 all-time against Jacksonville State. The Gamecocks earned their first win over Western Kentucky this season in a 75-48 home win on Jan. 2, 2026. In the first ever meeting between the squads, Western Kentucky won 62-52 in Pete Mathews Coliseum on Jan. 13, 2024. Saturday's contest is the sixth time the teams have matched up.
