Women's Basketball Hosts CUSA Newcomer Delaware Saturday

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State women's basketball is back in action Saturday at 1:30 p.m. to take on CUSA newcomer Delaware. The Gamecocks are coming off a 60-55 setback at home against Liberty on Feb. 5.

Last Time Out
The Gamecocks are coming off a 60-55 loss to Liberty Thursday night in Pete Mathews Coliseum. In the loss, Adriana Jones led the way with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including scoring five of her 10 points in the first quarter. Eden Sample and Maria Sanchez-Ponce added nine points, while Mya Barnes paced the Gamecocks with a team-high 11 rebounds.
 
In Conference Standouts
In CUSA play, Barnes has led the way scoring 12.0 points per game and averaging 9.5 rebounds per contest. Barnes' production has her playing at a potentially all-conference level if it holds for the remainder of the season. Brooklyn McDaniel averages 10.8 points and 5.1 boards in league play, while Jones scores 10.3 points per game, respectively.
 
Let It Fly
Jax State ranks first in CUSA with an average of 8.2 threes made per game. They also have shot 180 threes thus far, which also ranks first in the conference. At Kennesaw State on Jan. 17, the Gamecocks hit a season-high 14 threes, including seven made shots from range at halftime. The 14 made threes against the Owls were on an efficient 28 attempts from beyond the arc.

Mya Barnes ranks tied for sixth in CUSA with an average of 1.0 blocks per game. Barnes is tied for fifth in the conference averaging 2.0, made threes per game, is tied for fifth in the league with an average of 8.5 rebounds per game and is 19th in CUSA averaging 11.2 points. Adriana Jones is 24th in CUSA averaging 10.1 points per game.
 
In the Home Stretch
The Gamecocks, Liberty, and Delaware are currently in a three-way tie for sixth place in the CUSA standings with just over a month left of games remaining. Following the matchup between Jax State and the Blue Hens there will be seven games yet to be played. In the preseason poll, Jax State was picked to finish 12th, with Delaware just ahead of them at 11th.
 
Series History
Saturday's matchup between Delaware and Jax State will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
