JACKSONVILLE – Jax State women's tennis is in action at home Friday at 12 p.m. when they welcome the Samford Bulldogs to the Jax State Tennis Courts.
The Gamecocks are 3-2 after a 4-1 loss at home against North Alabama on Feb. 10. Meanwhile, Samford is 3-1 and coming off a 5-2 win at Belmont on Feb. 6.
In the loss to UNA, Jax State was able to take the doubles point.
Polina Ramenskaja paired up with
Emma Montagner to down the Lions' Louise Booker and Eeva Ristola 6-2 on doubles court one. On court three,
Sae Kaneko and
Angeles Rodriguez-Rizo took down Farah Asaad and Sammie Schouten 6-4 to clinch the doubles point.
Irene Artigas and Isabella Samboloa were tied 5-5 on court two when the point was clinched leaving their doubles matched unfinished.
The Gamecocks have a 15-10 record in singles as a team through the first five matches of the year. Artigas has a team-best 3-0 record in singles so far. Kaneko and Ramenskaja both follow sitting with a 3-1 singles record. Montagner is 1-0 on the year as well, while
Aneka Patel is 1-1. Rodriguez-Rizo and Sambola are both 2-3, while
Alba Roche is 0-1.
In doubles play, Artigas and Sambola have a team-leading 3-0 record thus far. Kaneko and Rodriguez-Rizo are 4-1 in doubles together and lead the team in matches completed. Ramenskaja has paired up with Montagner, Patel, and Roche to this point in the year. Ramenskaja and Montagner are 1-0, Ramenskaja and Patel are 1-2, and Ramenskaja and Roche are 0-1.
Following the match Friday afternoon, women's tennis continues a three-match homestand against Alabama A&M on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 11 a.m. at the Jax State Tennis Courts.
