Women’s Basketball Hosts First-Place Lady Techsters

JACKSONVILLE—The Jax State women's basketball team will play host to LA Tech Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Pete Mathews Coliseum as they look to get back to their winning ways.

The Gamecocks are looking to bounce back from an 0-2 road trip last week, returning home where they are 4-2 in league play. They are just a game and a half behind Missouri State for fifth place in the league.

Mya Barnes has put together a solid senior season in Conference USA play, averaging just shy of 11 points per game in conference games to go along with 8.1 rebounds per game. Adriana Jones has chipped in an average of 10.1 points per game in league contests. Jones was the leading scorer in Saturday's game at Western Kentucky with 10 points and a career-high nine rebounds.

Jones has been in double figures in three of her last four games.

Jax State is second in the conference in scoring defense, holding teams to an average of 58.3 points per game. They will face the league's top scoring offense with the Lady Techsters averaging 74.8 points per game. Preseason CUSA Player of the Year Paris Bradley leads the team at 14.6 points per contest.

The Lady Techsters won the previous meeting between the two teams in Ruston on January 31st. Maria Sanchez-Ponce led Jax State with 17 points off the bench. Barnes added 16 points and nine rebounds.
