Men's Tennis Loses First Match of the Year At Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, Ga. – Jax State men's tennis came up just short at number 57 ranked Georgia Tech Friday. The Gamecocks lost the match 4-3 at Georgia Tech's Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
 
The Gamecocks (6-1) earned the doubles point against the Yellow Jackets (7-2). The Gamecocks also took two singles courts in the loss.
 
Marko Milosavljevic and David Krasner earned the first doubles win with a 6-2 victory over Georgia Tech's Owen DeMuth and Elias Shokry on court three. Lucius Soller and Zach Murphy then clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 triumph over Richard Biagiotti and Chistophe Clement on court one.
 
Timo De Visser and Aman Dahiya were leading 5-2 against Gianluca Carlini and Jonathan Irwanto on court two when the doubles point was granted to the Gamecocks.
 
In singles, Alin Fatu and Krasner won their courts to give the Gamecocks three points in the match. Fatu took his match against DeMuth on court six in straight-sets. Fatu won the first set 6-4, before coming out victorious 7-5 in a tightly contested second set.
 
Krasner won 6-2 in his first set over Carlini on court two. Carlini then responded with a 6-2 win of his own in the second set. In the determinate third set, Krasner prevailed with a 6-4 final.
 
Earlier in the match, Milosavljevic fell 6-0, 6-1 against Biagiotti on court five to tie the match at 1-1. De Visser then fell 6-4, 6-2 against Shokry on court four to give Georgia Tech a 2-1 lead. Charlie Penman, fresh off his CUSA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week award, fell in a competitive match on court one.
 
Penman lost the first set 7-6 (12-10) before being beaten 6-4 in the second by Clement. In the final singles matchup, Dahiya lost 6-1 in his first set on court three against Irwanto. Dahiya then took the second 6-3, but Irwanto clinched the match win for the Yellow Jackets with a 7-5 third set final.
 
The Gamecocks head to Florida State for matches against Southern Miss on Feb. 21 and Florida State on Feb. 22 next.
