
Krasner Clinches Match Against Southern Miss

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Jax State men's tennis bounced back from Friday's close loss at Georgia Tech with a 4-2 victory over Southern Miss Saturday afternoon.
The Gamecocks (7-1) took on the Golden Eagles (2-3) at Florida State University.
Southern Miss opened the match with a doubles win to claim the first point of the day. David Krasner and Marko Milosavljevic teamed up on doubles court three for a 7-5 win over Olle Noltorp and Matei Varbanciu. However, on court two, Timo De Visser and Alin Fatu were downed 6-4 by USM. On court one, Zach Murphy and Lucius Soller were defeated 7-6 by Kale Mize and Jay Temming to grant the doubles point to the Golden Eagles.
In singles play, Charlie Penman earned a 7-6, 6-3 win on court one over Mize to tie the match at 1-1. Aman Dahiya lost his first set on court three 6-3 before responding with a 6-3 second set win of his own. In the third set, Dahiya was downed 6-3 again, putting the Golden Eagles in front 2-1.
Murphy and Fatu both won on courts five and six to get the Gamecocks within match point. Murphy won 6-3, 6-3 on court five over Eric Perkowski, while Fatu won 7-5, 6-1 on court six over Temming.
Krasner clinched the match for the Gamecocks with a three-set triumph on court two over Saheb Sodhi. Krasner lost the first set 7-6 but answered in the second set with a 6-3 win. In the third, Krasner was able to outlast Sodhi with a 6-1 final to give the Gamecocks the match win.
On court four, De Visser lost his first set 6-4 to Noltorp. He then won the second set 6-1 and was tied 5-5 in the third as Krasner clinched the match leaving his match unfinished.
The Gamecocks are back in action Sunday at 10 a.m. against No. 42 Florida State at the FSU Tennis Center.
