
Women's Basketball Hosts Sam Houston Saturday

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Jax State women's basketball is set to host Sam Houston Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Pete Mathews Coliseum. The Gamecocks are coming in the final stretch of the year with only three regular-season following the matchup with the Bearkats.

Last Time Out
The Gamecocks are coming off a 58-57 loss to first-place Louisiana Tech Thursday. The Gamecocks were led by Mya Barnes who recorded a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double against the Lady Techsters. Against LA Tech, Maria Sanchez-Ponce had 13 points on an efficient 5-of-8 shooting and 3-of-6 from three, while Makala Hobdy added 11 points and a team-best four assists.
Gamecocks' Defense Against LA Tech
Against first-place LA Tech, the Gamecocks came within one point of victory. Jax State held LA Tech to their second lowest point total of the season and lowest point total in CUSA play this year. Baylor, who was ranked 15th in the country, is the only other team to hold LA Tech to fewer points than Jax State (46 on Nov. 26).
Barnes' Double-Doubles
Against LA Tech Thursday, Barnes recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Barnes had a double-double against Mercer (Dec. 6), Brewton-Parker (Dec. 9), Presbyterian (Dec. 21), FIU (Jan. 8), and Kennesaw State (Jan. 17). Barnes is also the first Gamecock to have back-to-back double-doubles since Kennedy Gavin in the 2021-22 season.
