Nine-Run Fifth Inning Lifts Jax State over Mississippi Valley State

Blauser tallies five RBI, most in his career

JACKSONVILLE — Cooper Blauser's three-for-four day propelled Jax State to a season-high 15 runs in a 15-3 victory over Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday evening at Jim Case Stadium.

Blauser also turned in a career-high seven RBI and was one of five players to steal a base in the victory.

Brady Thomas earned the victory in his first pitching outing this season with 2.1 innings of scoreless work, sitting down three batters while only giving up a single hit. Luke Richard was tabbed with the loss after giving up three runs in one inning of work, including the go-ahead run for Jax State (6-2).

Blauser scored the first run of the game in the home half of the first inning, sending the first hit of the day over the wall in left field to tally his first home run of the season.

In the top of the third inning, the Delta Devils (0-5) plated two runs from a two-RBI single, taking a brief lead after the first three frames.

Between the bottom of the fourth and the bottom of the sixth, the Gamecocks would score 14 runs, starting with three in the bottom of the fourth from Luke Williams' two-RBI single and an RBI-groundout from Greg LaChance.

The bottom of the fifth inning saw the Gamecocks offense explode for nine runs, the most runs scored in an inning since April 9, 2024, when the Gamecocks scored 13 runs against FIU in the bottom of the third. Six runs were scored from hits, including a three-run triple from Blauser, while two runs were scored from wild pitches and one from a balk.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Gamecocks added two more runs, one from an RBI-double and one from a sac fly, to push the lead up to 15-2.

The Delta Devils added one run in the top of the seventh from a sac fly, cutting the lead to 15-3, the eventual final.

The Gamecocks stole a total of five bases in the game, the most since April 1 of last season, when the Gamecocks stole seven bases against Alabama State.

Blauser ended with a homer, a single, and a triple. He was a double short of the cycle.

Jax State returns to action on Wednesday morning for another game against Mississippi Valley State. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
