TROY, Ala. – Jax State women's tennis earned a 4-3 win against rival Troy Thursday afternoon on the road. The Gamecocks improved to 5-3 on the season with the victory.
In doubles,
Polina Ramenskaja and Aneka fell on court one to Troy's Maria Guirguis and Hiba Heni. On court two,
Irene Artigas and
Isabella Sambola won 6-2.
Sae Kaneko and
Angeles Rodriguez-Rizo then pulled out a close 7-6 (7-5) win on court three to clinch the doubles point Jax State.
Kaneko kept the winning rolling in singles with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Emilia Namyslo. Ramenskaja lost on court one 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) to Guirguis to make it 2-1 Gamecocks. Patel made it 3-1 Jax State with her 7-5, 6-2 win on court three. Rodriguez-Rizo played a three-set match against Leena Metwally. Rodriguez-Rizo won the first set 6-4, but Metwally responded with back-to-back 6-0 wins in the second and third sets to cut Jax State's lead to 3-2.
On court five, Sambola was downed 6-4, 7-5 by Sama Hindawy to tie the match at 3-3. Artigas clinched the Gamecock win on court four in a three-set match against Veena Nazar. Artigas won the first set 6-1 before Nazar answered with a 6-4 second set win. In the third, Artigas pulled out the win with a 6-3 final.
Troy fell to 4-4 with the loss to Jax State.
Next up, the Gamecocks welcome Louisiana Tech to the Jax State Tennis Courts on Sunday, March 1. The match against LA Tech is set for a 12 p.m. first-serve.
