JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State women's tennis begins March hosting the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Sunday. The Gamecocks are fresh off a 4-3 win over rival Troy on Feb. 26 on the road.
Against Troy, the Gamecocks (5-3) took the doubles point thanks to a 6-2 triumph by
Irene Artigas and
Isabella Sambola.
Sae Kaneko and
Angeles Rodriguez-Rizo clinched the doubles win with a 7-6 (7-5) victory on court three.
Aneka Patel and
Polina Ramenskaja fell 6-1 on court one.
In singles action, Artigas clinched the match with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 victory on court four. Kaneko won her singles match 6-4, 6-1 on court six. Patel took the win on court three with a 7-5, 6-2 straight-set final also.
The Gamecocks are 24-16 this season in singles with Kaneko leading the way with five wins compared to just two losses. Artigas and Patel are both 4-1 in singles, while Ramenskaja is 4-2.
Emma Montagner is 1-0, Alaba Roche is 1-1, Sambola is 3-4, and Rodriguez-Rizo is 2-5.
In doubles play, Jax State has a 14-7 record. Rodriguez-Rizo and Kaneko are 6-2 together to lead the Gamecocks. Artigas and Sambola are 4-1, Patel and Ramenskaja are 3-3, Ramenskaja and Roche are 1-0, and Roche and Ramenskaja have an 0-1 mark together.
After the match against the Bulldogs (6-2), the Gamecocks head to Eastern Kentucky on March 4 for a match scheduled for a 10 a.m. first-serve.
