Jax State won a thrilling extra inning contest to open the 2026 season, but a two-strike, two-out, two-run home run by the hosts ended the day with a 1-1 record.

The Gamecocks were a 7-5 winner in 10 innings over Tulsa before dropping an 8-7 game to Louisiana to finish the day.

Kailey Martin got the season started with a two-run double to left field in the first inning, then ended a run of five straight runs by Tulsa in the sixth with an RBI single up the middle. The game was tied in the sixth when Makayla Deville and
Maddie Mayo came around to score on an error.

Martin was 3-for-6 with three RBIs.

Mayo gave the Gamecocks a 6-5 lead in the 10
th with a double to left to score
Morgan Nowakowski, then came around to score on
Aria Davis's single to left.

Nowakowski finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and drew two walks.

Jaliyah Holmes picked up the win, allowing just one unearned run on four hits over 5.2 innings of work with three strikeouts.

Emma Elrod was 2-for-5 in the game and
Aria Davis added a pair of hits in six at bats.

Jax State trailed Louisiana 1-0 after an inning of play, but exploded for four runs in the fourth when Davis singled home Nowakowski and was followed by a towering three-run homer to left by Makalyn Keiser. The hosts answered with five of their own in the bottom of the fourth, which included a two-out, two-run homer to break a 4-4 tie.

An RBI double by
Emma Elrod followed by an RBI single by Martin tied the game at six in the fifth and a double by Mayo gave Jax State a 7-6 advantage.

Elrod finished the game 2-for-4 and Martin was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Louisiana was down to its final strike in the bottom of the seventh when it hit the game ending homer.

The Gamecocks will take on North Texas at 1 p.m. and Louisiana again at 6 p.m. tomorrow.
