JACKSONVILLE – Jax State women's tennis returns to the Jax State Tennis Courts Saturday at 12 p.m. to face Lee University.
The Gamecocks are 2-1 following a loss at Georgia Tech on Feb. 1. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Gamecocks 4-0. Jax State won their first match of the season at Berry on Jan. 27 by a score of 7-0. In their first home match of the year, the Gamecocks earned a 4-3 victory over Mississippi College.
Meanwhile, Lee University's first match of the season is against Jax State on Saturday.
In the most recent match at Georgia Tech, the Yellow Jackets took the doubles points with wins on courts three and one.
Irene Artigas and
Isabella Sambola's match on court two was unfinished tied at 5-5.
Georgia Tech went on to win courts five, two, and four in singles to take the match win.
Sae Kaneko on court six, Artigas on court three, and
Polina Ramenskaja on court one all had matches go unfinished as the Yellow Jackets clinched before they went final.
Artigas, Kaneko,
Polina Ramenskaja all lead the Gamecocks with a 2-0 singles record.
Aneka Patel has a 1-1 singles record so far this year.
Angeles Rodriguez-Rizo and Sambola share a 1-2 record.
Alba Roche has an 0-1 record. As a team, Jax State is 9-6 this season in singles.
In doubles, the pairing of Artigas and Sambola has a perfect 2-0 record. Rodriguez-Rizo and Kaneko have gone 2-1 to this point, while Ramenskaja and Patel are currently 1-2 as a doubles team. The Gamecocks are 5-3 in doubles this year.
Women's tennis will host North Alabama in their next match after the contest against Lee. The match against North Alabama will be on Feb. 10 at 1:30 p.m. at the Jax State Tennis Courts.
