BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Jax State Women's Tennis team travels West on I-20 to Birmingham Wednesday to face the UAB for a 1 p.m. match time. The 10-4 overall Gamecocks have taken victories in their last four consecutive matches and have won six of their last seven. Mike Helms squad looks to continue their streak of success by meeting a 4-8 overall UAB squad.
UAB has lost four of their last five with losses coming against North Texas, North Florida, La Tech, and Kennesaw State, giving them a 3-3 record on their home courts. UAB has found some success in singles with Adela Wasserbauerova, a graduate student who has won her last three singles matches.
The Gamecocks recently swept the player of the week honors with
Irene Artigas being selected for CUSA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week after going 4-0 in singles, while
Polina Ramenskaja and
Aneka Patel were named as the conferences Doubles Team of the Week after a 4-0 week as well.
Following Irene's overall 8-1 record in singles, making noticeable headlines is one of Jax State's freshmen,
Sae Kaneko. Kaneko holds a 9-2 record winning her last 6 straight helping the Gamecocks compile a 38-24 overall record in singles.

Aneka Patel who are 8-3 overall and have won their last five straight doubles matches together. The senior/freshmen pair
Irene Artigas and
Sae Kaneko have found success and are now 3-0 in doubles paired together.
The Gamecocks will then take on South Alabama at home Saturday, March 21, at 10 a.m. following the road dual at UAB.
