BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Jax State women's tennis fell 4-0 at UAB Wednesday afternoon. The Gamecocks are now 10-5 on the year after the setback against one of their in-state rivals.
In doubles,
Polina Ramenskaja and
Aneka Patel lost 6-2 on court one to UAB's Kristyna Damaskova and Klara Kajabova. UAB clinched the doubles point when Julia Caffarena and Antonia Ende defeated Jax State's
Emma Montagner and
Isabella Sambola 6-1 on court three.
On court two,
Sae Kaneko and
Irene Artigas were trailing Gresi Bajri and Nera Tesankic 5-3 when the match was abandoned as UAB took the doubles point with wins on courts one and three.
In singles, Patel lost 6-3, 6-4 to Kajabova on court two as UAB extended their advantage to 2-0. On court four,
Alba Roche fell 6-0, 6-4 to Bajri to give the Blazers match point. Montagner lost 6-1, 6-0 to Caffarena on court five to give the Blazers the win.
On court one, Ramenskaja won the opening set 6-2 against Damaskova before losing the second 6-2. Ramenskaja was ahead 1-0 in the third when the match was unfinished. Artigas lost 6-3 in the first set to Tesankic on court three. The match was unfinished with a 3-3 tie in the second set.
Kaneko was playing Ende on court six. Ende won the first set 6-4, but in the second set Kaneko was leading 3-1 when the match was abandoned.
The Gamecocks move on to face South Alabama at home on Saturday, March 21. The match against the Jaguars is set for a 10 a.m. first-serve.
