WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – Women's tennis won their second straight road match with a 4-0 triumph at University of the Cumberlands Thursday afternoon. The Gamecocks improve to 7-4 with the win.
In doubles action,
Aneka Patel and
Polina Ramenskaja teamed up on court one for a 6-2 victory over Cumberlands' Mahiro Hara and Yu Fang Liu.
Sae Kaneko and
Irene Artigas helped clinch the doubles point with their 6-2 win over Haruna Kojima and Victoria Zarate on court two.
On court three,
Emma Montagner and
Alba Roche were tied 4-4 with Marina Nagai and Bryndis Rosa when the Gamecocks clinched doubles, leaving the match unfinished.
In singles play, Patel downed Rosa in straight-sets 6-4, 6-3 to help the Gamecocks extend their lead.
Sae Kaneko continued her impressive freshman campaign with a 6-4, 6-1 win on court six over Liu. Kaneko now has a team leading 7-2 record in singles.
Artigas won 6-1, 6-0 on court three over Zarate in singles. On court one, Ramenskaja dropped the first set 6-4, then won the second set 6-3. Ramenskaja was trailing 3-2 in the third set when the match was abandoned. Roche won the first set on court five 6-3 and was behind 3-2 in the second when her match was unfinished.
On court four, Montanger took the first set 6-2. She was losing 4-2 in the second when the match was claimed by the Gamecocks.
Women's tennis returns home to the Jax State Tennis Courts on Saturday, March 8. The match against the Racers is set for an 11 a.m. first-serve.
