NASHVILLE, Tn. – Women's tennis dominated Tennessee State 4-0 on the road Sunday afternoon. The Gamecocks have now won four matches in a row to improve to 9-4 on the year.
To open the match,
Polina Ramenskaja and
Aneka Patel got the winning ways rolling in a 6-1 final on doubles court one against TSU's Victoria Cooksey Claudia Murdasanu. On court three,
Sae Kaneko and
Irene Artigas also won 6-1 against Aroa Arrie Castillo and Jovana Nikolic to grant the Gamecocks the doubles point.
Emma Montagner and
Alba Roche were teamed up on court two. They were trailing 4-3 against Julie Tungamarial and Natalie Walsh when the doubles point was claimed by Jax State.
In singles action, Ramenskaja dominated the first set against Nikolic 6-0. Ramenskaja was ahead 1-0 when Nikolic retired from the match to give the win to Ramenskaja. Artigas won 6-0, 6-1 on court three against Cooksey to give the Gamecocks a 3-0 advantage.
On court six, Kaneko was impressive in her straight-set win against Murdasanu. Kaneko won 6-0 in both the first and second sets to give the Gamecocks the win.
Patel won the first 6-3 against Tungamarial on court two. Patel and Tungamarial were tied 2-2 in the second set when the match was abandoned. Montagner won the opening set 6-4 against Walsh on court four. Montagner was ahead 2-0 in the second when the match was unfinished. Finally, on court five, Roche earned a 6-3 first set win against Castillo. Castillo was up 1-0 in the second when the match was clinched by Jax State.
Next on the schedule for Jax State is a match at UAB on Wednesday, March 18. The match between the in-state rivals is set for a 1 p.m. start.
