Gamecocks Land Two CUSA Weekly Awards

DALLAS—Jax State had a pair of players honored by Conference USA for their work in a 49-7 win over Eastern Kentucky on Saturday.
Fifth-year wide receiver Jamill Williams was selected as the league's offensive player of the week and guard Lance Jonhson was named the offensive lineman of the week. The awards are voted on by a media panel that regularly covers Conference USA.
Williams put together a performance of historic measures, making seven catches for 144 yards and four touchdowns. The Atlanta native recorded the second-most touchdown receptions in a game in CUSA history and became the first Gamecock with four receiving TDs in a game since Alan Bonner in 2012.
Johnson was a Conference USA All-Freshman selection last year as a tackle and made his first career start at guard on Saturday. The Birmingham native and his teammates kept quarterback Caden Creel untouched the entire night, allowing him to throw for a career-high 327 yards and five touchdowns. The run game also averaged 5.6 yards per carry on 31 attempts.
The Gamecocks will be on the road Saturday to face Ohio at 5 p.m. Central on ESPN+.
