Biography

JSU CAREER: 2022: Appeared in 24 games while starting in four…finished the season with a 5.13 ERA on 47.1 innings while also adding one save…pitched in 4.0 innings at Eastern Kentucky (May 7)…struck out three batters versus Bellarmine (Apr. 16) and at Eastern Kentucky (May 7)…pu tout one runner against Central Arkansas (May 15)…had two assists at Central Arkansas (Apr. 9). 

2021:
An option out of the bullpen with 20 relief appearances…finished the season 25.1 innings pitched and collected 27 strikeouts…had a season high in innings pitched with 5.0 innings and seven strikeouts against SIU Edwardsville (May 8)…finished with a 3-2 record with one save on the season.

2020: An option out of the bullpen with five appearances in relief…finished with 11.1 innings pitches and collected 11 strikeouts…allowed just two runs on the season – both unearned runs…tallied multiple strikeouts in four of the five outings…turned in back-to-back three strikeout performances against Gardner-Webb (Feb. 28) and at Eastern Illinois (March 8)…tossed a season-best 3.2 innings against EIU in his final appearance of the season.

2019: Made his Gamecock debut with a spot in the weekend rotation at the beginning of the year… finished the season with 52.1 innings on the mound…accumulated 34 strikeouts…tossed five innings in his first start against North Alabama on February 16…turned in a season-best 6.0 innings of work versus Florida International to pick up the win…scattered seven FIU hits and allowed one run…tallied a season-high five strikeouts against Purdue on March 16…posted a solid outing out of the bullpen on April 19 against Eastern Kentucky…pitched three scoreless frames and fanning three versus nationally-ranked Georgia on May 8.

2018: Sat out the season as a redshirt.

High School: Finished the prep level at Gloucester High School…attended Tallwood High School before moving to GHS…coached by Gus Morande at GHS…earned Second Team All-State honors as a senior for the Dukes…helped GHS to the district and conference championship in 2017…was an All-District and All-Region First Team selection in 2017…earned a spot on the Virginia Coaches Association All-Star Team…hit over .300 in three of his four seasons in high school…listed by Perfect Game as a top-1000 recruit and listed among the top-60 players in the state of Virginia and ranked among the top pitchers in the state…claimed PG 2017 Atlantic Region Honorable Mention status…a three-sport athlete at GHS as a member of the basketball and volleyball programs…was an All-State selection on the volleyball court and posted All-District First Team honors in volleyball…finished runner up for the district player of the year award in volleyball…also recruited by Radford University.

Personal: Born November 12, 1998 in Lawrenceville, Georgia….the son of Corey Fortner and Shannon Maffin…plans to major in psychology at JSU…has an older brother, Trystan and two younger sisters, Morgan and Kyndall…lists the Boston Red Sox as his favorite Major League Baseball club.
