CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Jacksonville State men's and women's tennis teams got the 2009 Ohio Valley Conference schedule off to a good start with victories over Austin Peay on Saturday.

Jax State's men blanked the Governors 7-0 to improve to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in the OVC. The women earned 6-1 win over the Lady Govs to move their record to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the OVC.

JSU grabbed the doubles point with two wins and a default. Eduardo Saratt and Scott Robertson downed Renan Bezerra and Bret Shaw at No 2 and Austin Peay defaulted No. 3 doubles to Steffen Solomon and Chris Duke.

The Gamecocks completed the shutout with wins at all six singles positions. Robertson defeated Locatelli at No. 1 while Saratt won at No. 2 over DeBrito. Bachino downed Bezerra at No. 3 and Duke defeated Shaw at No. 4. Steffen Solomon defeated Dustin Brady at No. 5 while Brian Kenyon won by default over Francisco LaPuente at No. 6.

The JSU women swept all three doubles matches to win the doubles point and a take a 1-0 lead into singles. Rafaila Wenzel and Viviane Marini defeated Yuke Makamura and Marani Pagan at No 1 and Martina Dessbesell and Eloah Lopes defeated Michelle Liew and Demi Georgakopoulos at No. 2. Kristin Fuller and Laura Lundy completed the sweep at No. 3 over Brittany Hayes and Alexandria Pyle.

The Gamecocks won five of six singles matches to complete the 6-1 win. Dessbesell defeated Liew at No. 2 and Wenzel downed Nakamura at No. 3. Renesto defeated Georgakopoulos at No. 4 and Eloah Lopes won at No. 5 over Hayes. Kristen Fuller finished defeated Pyle at No. 6.

The JSU men are back in action against the University of Alabama on Sunday at 3 p.m. before the men and women host Troy on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
