BIRMINGHAM – The Jacksonville State women's tennis team remained unbeaten in Ohio Valley Conference play with a 5-2 win over Eastern Illinois (5-9, 1-2 OVC) on Wednesday at Samford University's Courington Tennis Pavilion.

Martina Dessbesell and Eloah Lopes defeated Cara Huck and Juliana Frey 8-4 at No. 2 doubles and Kristen Fuller and Kimberly Ferris downed Shannon Brooks and Annie Egan, 8-5, to give the Gamecocks a 1-0 lead.

The Gamecocks (9-3, 3-0 OVC) entered the match without No. 3 Rafaila Wenzel, who sat out due to an illness but JSU managed to win four of six matches to close out the match. Viviane Marani earned a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 win over Huck at No. 1 and Dessbesell beat Hayley Homburg, 6-4, 6-1 at No 2. Julianna Renesto defeated Juliana Frey 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 at No. 3 while Lopes downed Amanda Dibbs 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4.

JSU returns to action against Tennessee State on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the JSU Tennis Courts before hosting Tennessee Tech on Saturday at 10 a.m.
