Box Score Final Stats

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Jacksonville State dropped its second-straight contest to a Southeastern Conference foe with a 100-25 decision at nationally-ranked Kentucky on Tuesday morning at Memorial Coliseum.

The Gamecocks, who fell to Mississippi State in the season opener on Friday, fall to 0-2 on the season.  The No. 17 Wildcats improved to 2-0 on the season after their wins over Ohio Valley Conference competition.  UK downed Morehead State last Friday, 96-60, in Morehead, Ky.

The 75-point loss is the largest margin of defeat in JSU women's basketball history and the 25 points scored is a program-low for a single game.  JSU suffered a 63-point setback to Mississippi State back in the 1994-95 season and a 59-point defeat at the hands of Baylor in 2009-10.  The previous was a 33-point outing against Alabama-Huntsville during the 1984-85 season.  JSU's NCAA Division I-low was 40 points scored in a contest with Georgia State in 2003.

UK took control of the contest early by jumping out to a 22-2 lead with11:44 left in the first half.  JSU scored the game's first point on a Briana Morrow tip in at the 18:47 mark.  Morrow, a freshman from Nashville, Tenn., finished her Gamecock debut with a team-best eight points to lead all JSU scorers.  With the help of 27 Gamecock turnovers in the first 20 minutes, the Wildcats turned those miscues into 31 points on the other end.  JSU finished with 48 turnovers as UK accumulated 50 points off those turnovers.

The Wildcats took hefty 49-13 advantage over JSU into the halftime break.  The Gamecocks have scored just 13 points in the opening half of both games this season.

JSU Head Coach Annette Watts played all 15 players in the contest, including all eight of the freshmen and junior college transfer Carolyn TaiteHannah Miller scored her first collegiate points along with Bria'unna Buckner connecting on a three-pointer in the contest.

Senior Destiny Lane, juniors Danielle Vaughn and Amanda McCarthy finished with three points each.  Lane pulled down a team-best nine rebounds in her 33 minutes of action.  The Ashville, Ala.-native also had three steals. As a team, the Gamecocks connected on just 9-of-41 from the field, while UK attempted 90 shots and converting on 38 of those shots.  UK used its size advantage against JSU, scoring 68 of its points in the paint.

UK placed five players in double figures in the scoring column, led by A'dia Mathies' and Bernisha Pinkett's 18 points each.  Mathies finished with a double-double as she pulled down a game-high ten rebounds.  Azia Bishop chipped in 11 points off the bench, while Bria Goss and Maegan Conwright added ten points in the win.

JSU's compacted season-opening slate continues on Thursday, Nov. 17 as it welcomes LeMoyne-Owen to campus.  Tip off is set for 7 p.m. at Pete Mathews Coliseum.  The Gamecocks will travel to Kennesaw, Ga. on Saturday, Nov. 19 to face the Owls of Kennesaw State.
