Women's Tennis Advances To OVC Championship Match After Blanking APSU, 4-0

PADUCAH, Ky. – Jacksonville State's women's tennis team advanced to the Ohio Valley Conference Women's Tennis Championship match on Sunday with a 4-0 win over Austin Peay in the semifinals of the OVC Women's Tennis Tournament on Saturday.

The top-seeded Gamecocks will face off with the Skyhawks of UT Martin in the championship match at 10 a.m. JSU and UTM shared the league's regular season crown with 7-1 marks, but JSU earned the top seed with its 4-3 win over the Blue and Orange last Saturday in Martin, Tenn. UTM downed Morehead State, 4-2, in the other semifinal match. Sunday's winner will receive the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship in May.

JSU will enter the dual having claimed the last six matches dating back to a setback to its lone OVC setback to MSU.

Jax State cruised past the Lady Govs as it claimed the doubles point after its No. 2 duo of Raisa Gusati and Raphaela Lima made quick work of APSU's tandem of Andra Cornea and Vanja Tomic, 8-2. At No. 3, JSU secured the point after APSU's Brittany Hays and Rachel Margolies retired to Juliana Renesto and Rafaela Wenzel.

The Red and White quickly took command of the match after Margolies tried to give it a go in singles against Wenzel, but was forced to retire at No. 6. Gamecock senior Martina Dessbesell won in straight sets over APSU's Carolin Weikard, 6-1-, 6-2 before JSU picked up the final team point after Renesto turned back Hays, 6-0, 6-1.
