Jax State enters the regional at Tech's Bill Moore Tennis Center with a 13-10 overall mark and has won its last seven matches, dating back to its lone OVC setback on April 1 at Morehead State. Friday's match with the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech will be the first-ever appearance for Jacksonville State in NCAA postseason play. Even though JSU won the Gulf South Conference Championship seven times, the league did not receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. A select group of individuals have participated in the NCAA Division II Tournament, but 2011 marks the first team selection to the NCAA field of 64. Jax State is just one of two teams in the 2011 field that are making its initial trip to the NCAA Championships. The Zips of Akron punched its first-ever trip by winning the automatic bid from the Mid-American Conference. The three other teams joining JSU in Atlanta - Arizona State, Georgia Tech and Mississippi have combined for 52 appearances in the women's tennis field. Inclusion in the 2011 tournament marks ASU's 26th all-time. The Rebels and Yellow Jacets have earned trips to the NCAA 14 and 12 times respectively.
The Gamecocks are led by senior Martina Dessbesell and freshman Raisa Guasti. Dessbesell and Guasti have 13 wins each in singles play. Guasti, who has 11 of her 13 wins at No. 3, was named to the All-OVC Second Team.
In doubles, Guasti has teamed up with Raphaela Lima at the No. 2 spot and posted 15 wins to lead the way for the Red and White. The duo looks for its tenth-straight win on Saturday as they have claimed their last nine doubles matches.
