NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Jacksonville State women's basketball team dropped a hard fought 61-59 decision to Tennessee State on Saturday night at the Gentry Center in Ohio Valley Conference women's basketball action.
The loss drops the Gamecocks to 4-23 on the season and 1-13 in OVC play. JSU has dropped its last eight games, while the Lady Tigers' two-point win snapped a five-game losing streak. TSU improved to 9-18 overall and 4-11 in the OVC.
In a game that saw 19 lead changes and tied 14 times, TSU's Chelsea Hudson broke the 14th deadlock with a driving lay up with 2:49 left to play to give the Lady Tigers a two-point advantage and never relinquish the lead the rest of the way. After trailing by three at the halftime break, 26-23, Jax State posted a 36-point second half effort. The second half scoring was fueled by Nashville, Tenn.-native
Briana Morrow's 15 points in the second half alone. The Glencliff High School graduate registered her fifth double-double of the season after finishing with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Morrow pulled down eight of her 10 boards in the second half alone, including seven offensive rebounds on the night. JSU held its largest lead of the second half at 44-41 with 9:23 left in the game after a Morrow basket. The three-point edge would be the largest by either team until 25 seconds left in the half as TSU held at 61-57 lead after a free throe by Hudson. The Gamecocks had multiple looks down the stretch to match TSU, but could not convert on the offensive end.
