FINAL RESULTS
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Jacksonville State women's golf team finished third in the Southern Miss Lady Eagle Invitational after a final-round 314 in the final round of the 36-hole event on Tuesday.
Senior Lucia Fernandez-Valdes and sophomore
Lourdes Lopez Caballo tied for eighth place to lead JSU in the 14-team field. The Gamecocks finished 11 shots behind team champion Troy and two shots behind second-place and host Southern Miss. They were one shot better than Murray State, the only other Ohio Valley Conference school in the field and the favorite to win the 2012 conference title.
Lopez Caballo led the Gamecocks on the final day at the par-72, 6,143-yard Hattiesburg Country Club with a 77 that gave her a two-day total of 152. Fernandez-Valdes was tied for the lead after Monday's opening round but a second-round 80 dropped her into the eighth-place tie.
Junior Luz Armijo Fernandez tied for 12th with a 155, thanks to a 78 on Tuesday, while Senior
Astrid Parsson used a 79 to tie for 32nd in the 75-player field. Junior
Ornella Arrizon rounded out the JSU lineup in 52nd after an 85 on Tuesday gave her a 36-hole score of 168.
JSU will return to the links on March 18-20 at the Morehead State Ocala Spring Invitational in Ocala, Fla.
