Gamecock Women Finish Seventh at Samford Intercollegiate

FINAL RESULTS

ONEONTA, Ala. – The Jacksonville State women's golf team wrapped up the 2012 Samford Intercollegiate with a seventh-place finish on Tuesday at the Limestone Springs Golf Course.

The Gamecocks shot a final-round 312 on the par-72, 6,039-yard layout to give them a 54-hole score of 929. Rival Troy won the nine-team event with a three-round total score of 914, one shot better than Middle Tennessee in second.

Senior Lucia Fernandez-Valdes turned in a final-round 75 to finish in a tie for 22nd. Her 54-hole score of 232 was eight shots back of Newberry College's Maria Luz Besio, who finished atop the field of 59 players.

Senior Astrid Parsson tied for 29th after a final-round 78 gave her a 54-hole score of 234, while junior Ornella Arrizon's 81 gave her a 236 and put her in a tie for 32nd. Junior Luz Armijo-Fernandez tied for 36th with a 237, while sophomore Lourdes Lopez Caballotied for 41st after a 54-hole 239. Freshman Elise Strutt played as an individual and tied for 47th with a 54-hole 247.

The Gamecocks lone remaining tournament in the Ohio Valley Conference Championship from April 22-24 at the Greystone Golf Course in Dickson, Tenn. The winner of the event will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
