Eberle Powers Gamecocks to 8-2 Win Over Austin Peay as JSU Wins Eighth Straight OVC Series

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Sam Eberle hit a grand slam in the sixth inning and Hunter Rivers allowed just two hits as Jacksonville State won its eighth straight Ohio Valley Conference series with an 8-2 win over Austin Peay.
 
Rivers (3-3) pitched six hitless innings and had seven strikeouts to earn the win for the Gamecocks. Casey Delgado (5-4) got stuck with the loss after giving up all eight runs for Austin Peay.
 
Jax State snapped the Govs 14-straight non-losing OVC series streak, while the Gamecocks still have not lost an OVC series in 2012.
 
The Gamecocks took the lead in the fourth inning after Scott Underwood led off with a double and scored when Kyle Bluestein singled to left field.  Bluestein then stole second and came in to score after Erik Underwood followed with a double as JSU took a 2-0 lead.
 
Jax State added a run in the fifth after Scott Underwood reached on an infield grounder and stole second, before moving to third on a Austin Peay throwing error and then scored on another Govs throwing error as the Gamecocks took a 2-0 lead.
 
Jacksonville State then broke the game open in the sixth inning after Lambert led off with a walk and moved to second after Coty Blanchard was hit by a pitch and Kyle Stone had a single up the middle to load the bases. Scott Underwood then walked to score Lambert before Eberle hit his second career grand slam and his 40th career home run to give the Gamecocks an 8-0 lead.
 
Austin Peay got on the board in the seventh inning after Jordan Hankins led off with a triple and scored on Reed Harper's sacrifice fly. Cody Hudson then hit a solo home run with two outs for the final margin.
 
Bluestein and Erik Underwood each finished with a pair of hits to lead the Gamecocks, while Scott Underwood scored three runs. Hankins had three of the four Austin Peay hits in the game to lead the Governors.
 
Jacksonville State returns to action on Tuesday when the Gamecocks host Alabama State. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. at Rudy Abbott Field.
