SUMMER LEAGUE: In 2011, played for the Reno Astros, coach by Matt Koropisos…In 2010, played for the Paradise Alliance of the Hawaii Collegiate League in Waipahu, Hawaii…coached by Chad and Jimmy Itokazu…was selected to the All-Star team.
 
JSU CAREER:

(2011) Played in all 59 games and finished second on the team with a .354 batting average to earn second-team All-Ohio Valley Conference honors…earned 54 starts, including 45 as DH and nine at first…posted a .410 slugging percentage and .413 on-base percentage…had the longest hitting streak on the team at 16 games, which tied for third longest in the OVC…finished third on the team with 21 multiple-hit games, including 12 with 2-hits and nine with 3-hits…had a streak of 29 straight games reaching base…made his JSU debut at Auburn on 2/22 and went 2-for-4…had his first 3-hit game the next day in the home opener against Kennesaw State, going 3-for-4 with a walk…also had three hits on 2/26 at Middle Tennessee….drove in a season-high three RBI vs UAB on 5/10, finishing 1-for-2…had four straight 3-hit games, from 5/14-5/20 vs EKU and Morehead State, where he was 12-for 17 during the stretch…finished season with a .358 batting average with runners in scoring position and .350 with two outs.
 
JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played at Yuba College for Tim Gloyd…was named first-team All-Conference as a freshman and sophomore…batted .386 with six home runs and 28 RBI as a sophomore…finished his freshman season with a .350 batting average with four home runs and 42 RBI.
 
HIGH SCHOOL: Played Galena High School for Gary MacNamara and Tom Flynn…was a first-team All-Conference selection as a senior after batting .459 with five home runs…helped the Grizzlies to a 32-4 record his junior season as team finished second in the State Playoffs and posted a final ranking of No. 25 by Baseball America…was an honor student.
 
PERSONAL: Full name is Erik John Underwood…son of Dave Underwood and Jeanne Underwood-Byl…born on September 25, 1989…has a twin brother, Scott, who also plays baseball for the Gamecocks…lists the San Francisco Giants as his favorite Major League Baseball team and Josh Hamilton and Adrian Gonzalez as his favorite players…majoring in liberal studies at JSU.
