Andrew Bishop had a pair of hits and drove in four runs to lead Jacksonville State to an 8-6 come-from-behind win over Alabama State on Wednesday evening.
Casey Antley (1-1) earned his first win of the season after allowing just four hits in three innings of relief for the Gamecocks.
Todd Hornsby recorded the final out of the game to earn his ninth save of the season. Alabama State's Derrick Sanders (0-1) suffered the loss after giving up five runs in just one inning of work.
The Hornets took an early 2-0 lead after scoring a run in the third inning on a RBI single by Darrion Pedro and added a run on a RBI single by Leo Rojas in the fifth inning.
Jax State (20-23) tied the game in the sixth inning after
Kyle Bluestein got the first hit for the Gamecocks off of ASU starter
Ron Frost, and
Coty Blanchard walked before Bishop hit his third triple of the season to tie the game at 2-2.
The Gamecocks took a 3-2 lead in the seventh inning after
Michael Bishop led off with a single and scored on
Scott Underwood's sacrifice fly to right field.
JSU then added five runs in the eighth inning as
Andrew Bishop and
Michael Bishop each drove in two runs, while
Ben Waldrip added the other run after drawing a bases loaded walk to give the Gamecocks a 8-2 lead. The Bishop brothers led the Gamecocks with two hits each as JSU finished with seven in the game.
Alabama State made the game close in the ninth inning after scoring four runs on five hits, before Hornsby recorded the last out with bases loaded for the final margin.
Ryan Epperson led Alabama State after going 4-for-4, while Rojas and Pedro finished with a pair of hits each.
Jacksonville State returns to action with a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series this weekend as the Gamecocks host Southeast Missouri State. Friday's game is set for 2 p.m. at Rudy Abbott Field and senior
Aaron Elias is scheduled to make the start against the Redhawks.
