COMPLETE RELEASE FROM GCAA
NORMAN, Okla. – A pair of Jacksonville State golfers, seniors
Tom Robson and
Alfonso Otoya, were on the list of Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars that was released by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Wednesday.
After guiding the Gamecocks to their second-straight Ohio Valley Conference title on the links in the spring, the duo were recognized by the GCAA for their efforts in the classroom. The Division I team recognizes juniors and seniors who participated in at least 70 percent of their team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Robson, a native of Portsmouth, England, was a First Team All-OVC selection for the third-straight year in 2012 on the course while posting a 3.41 GPA as a finance major at JSU. He posted a 73.1 stroke average in 2011-12, best on the team and fourth in the OVC, thanks to 16 rounds at par or better. He wrapped up a career that saw him post a scoring average of 73.64, the fourth-best in the program's Division I history. He won the Gamecocks' home event, the Grub Mart Intercollegiate, in both his junior and senior seasons, making him the only multiple winner in the event's history.
Otoya is a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, that finished his career at JSU on a positive note. Also a finance major, he posted a 3.22 GPA in the classroom and a career-low 74.19 stroke average on the course. He played in all 12 tournaments for JSU and finished as high as second, which came at JSU's Grub Mart Intercollegiate at Silver Lakes. He had five other top 25 finishes, including a sixth-place finish at the Argent Financial Classic at Squire Creek in Louisiana.
