JSU Rifle Records Solid Marks in Texas

FORT WORTH, Texas – The nationally-ranked Jacksonville State rifle team traveled to the Lone Star State for a pair of matches against two other ranked squads in Nevada and Texas Christian University.

The Gamecocks came away from the weekend with one of their top aggregate scores of the season, which will go a long ways in determining Jax State's postseason aspirations.  In the tri-match with No. 2 TCU and No. 13 Nevada, No. 3 JSU posted a 4679 final mark.  Host-TCU edged out the Gamecocks for the top-spot in the match with a score of 4690.  The Wolfpack of UN posted a final score of 4602.

JSU and UN went head-to-head on Halloween as the Red and White turned back UN by 37 points, 4654-4617.

In the tri-match, JSU carded a 2355 in the air rifle section, followed by a 2324 mark in smallbore.

Leading the way for the Gamecocks in air rifle was senior Cole Tucker.  The Wye Mills, Maryland-native had a score of 591, which was the third-best score of the day.  A trio of JSU shooters followed Tucker with marks of 588.  Seniors Brent Books, Dan McCall and sophomore Brandon Muske all equaled each other in air rifle.

In smallbore, junior Samanatha Bullard paced JSU with a high mark of 587.  She claimed medalist honors with the best score of the match.  Books tacked on a 581, followed by Muske's mark of 580.  McCall rounded out the scoring for the Gamecocks with a 576.

Jax State returns to action on Nov. 15 as it travels to Ohio Valley Conference foe Morehead State.
